Hi, I'm using the default 2.4.18 with 4.x you can try this config file
http://ingenieria.sanmartin.edu.co//~itamara/debian/sparc/XF86Config-4
maybe running dpkg-reconfigure and choosing fb and this file can be
done.

I am running a custom kernel. I built it for a diffent reason but it
works. You can grab it at:

The rest of my config is woody/stable, including XF4.1.
