Please put me down as another person struggling with this. System freezing
right after 'Switching root' and the SELinux message.

I'm not sure how a v240 differs from a v210, but 2.6.12 was OK on my
v210 and 2.6.15 isn't -- see #349857,

Installing Debian on a SunFire v240. System freezes towards the end of the
kernel booting with this being the last message:
Failed to mount /selinux/: No such file or directory
