Yes, but it is a bug with netscape. You should report this directly
to netscape and tell them to compile against a later version of libc.
You can do

Yes, I would say it's a bug in the Debian version of libc 5.

Lawrence reported this to me earlier. I had not seen any problems at
that time but am now. Is anyone else having problems with libc 5.4.7

Is it possible to automatically generate the 'Packages' file for a

Hi,
I just installed the newest jed package, and it won't start under
X... it says "terminal not powerful enough for Slang". Is there a way to
make jed and/or slsc under X?

Hi. When I try to install the Debian ghostscript package, dselect
notes that it depends on another package which is not available.
What do I need to do to either get this other package (I don't
recall it's name at the moment) or get an older version of gs which
does not have this dependency?

Hi,
I know this is not terribly important but I was wondering where the name debian
came from. Maybe those that have been in the project long could share that with
those of us that joined when debian had been underway for a long time already.
Thanks,
Luis.

Once I upgrade libc to 5.4.7-1, netscape cannot run and it said
bus error. Then I downgrade to 5.2.18, netscape runs again.
Is it a bug?

Hi,
I have a problem with X, which I tried to solve on private e-mail exchange.
However, I could not solve the problem so I'm looking for a broader audience;
I will also check the relevant x-news group.
I had X up and running on Debian Linux 1.1.4. The configuration I had was:

I trashed my 1.2.13 system on my home box and installed 2.0.2?. Dselect
didn't work, so I did a manual job with dpkg. I installed the kernel
source and compiled it fine. Did the make modules and make module_install

Hello
We plan to install the debian distribution in the whole network. I was
looking for a master installation script to run the installation
process automatically from a nfs mounted directory or via ftp. Are
there any solutions for that.
We want to keep the computers also all together at the sam

Hey all,
This is in regards to the discussion concerning 'fatal signal 11'
under GCC 2.7.2 on my machine.
Resetting the CPU type from 120Mhz to 100Mhz resolved the problem. I'm
not exactly sure why, but it worked.
Thanks to all who responded for their suggestions.

Hi,
The current status of X on Debian is (as I understand it)
- the version is XFree3.1.2
- XFree3.1.2G is the latest beta version, but can't be included in
Debian since the beta isn't distributed with source.
The official X11R6.1 distribution includes XFree3.1.2C ddxen -- this may

After much "persuasion" of many poeple after saying that I was using DCON,
I went and installed diald. Guess what.. it doesn't seem to run.
it seems like the /etc/init.d/diald won't actually run... it ACTS like it,
but if you pass it "./diald laksjfladskf" it just sits back down to the

Hello all,

try and find the reason for it, but had no luck.
