I installed the driver using the installer from nvidia.com and the
permissions are crw-rw-rw-, only owner.group is root.root, so I think
it should be okay. By the way, did you log out and in again after
adding yourself to the video group? Otherwise the system won't kno
om /etc/modules are loaded by /etc/init.d/modutils. During
boot, it is executed through the symlink /etc/rcS.d/S20modutils.

is connected via PCI, use lspci to get a listing and identify the chip.

I think you need to change the driver from "ati" to "

Perhaps you couldn't select the driver in modconf because it is built
into your kernel. What does /etc/network/interfaces say about your
card? Maybe you want to install the etherconf package. If you want to

apt does not know about it and will leave it untouched. You can however
try to find some source for programs not included (or not included in a
recent version) in Debian that you can use through apt. See
<http://www.apt-get.org> or <http://www.backports.org> for more

You can allow normal users to start a bash (or any other shell) via
sudo. That way they won't need to have a special user or group ID and

network card, install some other kernel image via apt-get and try that
one. However most of the kernel images in packaged form are on CD 5.
