2 quick questions,
Where can I find an XFree86 server newer than 3.3.2.3 in a .deb file, and
how can I tell what packages I already have installed?
Thanks,
Chris
I'm hoping someone would be kind enough to help me out with a problem I'm
having with X.
As usual I've screwed up part of my Linux system. I was trying to update
from KDE/X 3.3.5 to Gnome and X 3.3.6. After removing all evidence of X and
KDE, I tried installing X with the binaries on their site,
I swear by Xitami (http://xitami.com). I'll admit it -seems- overly simple, but
it
leaves a smaller footprint than both Apache and IIS, and is faster on windows
that
apache.
I'm using it on a Debian box right now, and it's survived a hits from slasdot..
That's
impressive.
Anyway, I'm biased...
I'm using a rather unheard of FTP server, and I'm trying to get is
started under it's own user that I made for it. Problem is something is
stopping it from opening port 21. The only user that seems to be able to
use port 21 is root. Is their a specific group the ftp program should
belong to?
If
I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me stop the portmapping
services on my computer. I was going through the Security Focus'
Securing Linux article, and it's reference to how to stop the
portmapping service was all for Slackware.
Thanks for any help,
Chris
