I have just installed debian with a static IP address. When I bring up
the desktop, I have no internet connection. I set up the gateway and
dns. It all works.
When I reboot I loose all my settings and have to start over again.
How can I get the system to retain DNS and gateway settings

I unsterstand that I need to do:
enable CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y and CONFIG_SCSI_AACRAID={y,m}
to get Adaptec 2120S to work on etch.
Please can someone point me in the right direction to do this.
I have PCs running Sarge and Etch. I do not normally recompile Kernels.

I was running woody on my hda disk (120GB). I got a new disk 20GB(hdb).
So I thought I would run Sarge on hdb, and mount my woody disk as
required to get any files I needed. I therefore do not need dual boot.
I can install Sarge (3.10) fine but then I get to the question of where

I wonder if anyone can help me? I am trying to "VI" a file that appears
to have control characters.
They appear as bold "~U|" and bold " | |", without the ".
I have tried seaching for these characters, with ":/~U" and :/| and
:/ctrlvM etc. But it appears as if they do not exist.

managed to load from CD 1 which was easy. I have also loaded using floppies
and getting the rest from the internet. Getting a driver and loading into
the Kernel is new to me.
