I am installing debian for the first time, and have already installed the
base system as well as selected some packages (yet to be installed). I
accidentally pushed the reboot button on my computer, and got error messages,
although it would still let me in. As I didn't know how to fix it at first
I am currently installing slink on my PC, and I am now ready to start
installing packages (from cdrom). Problem: after I login and type
'deselect', I get the message:
deselect: unable to open/create access method lockfile: permission
denied
I have no idea what lockfile is, why I'm denied permissi
this may be a longshot, but is there anyone living in san diego and
getting roadrunner cable? i e-mailed them to get some network
information (broadcast address to use on my network, what system I
should use as a DNS server, etc.) and they e-mailed me back saying that
linux doesn't support roadrunn
installing linux for the first time - was wondering if anyone has had
any experience w/ partition magic. i used it to partition 6 Mb for my
current C: (windows98) and 4Mb of free space intended for debian. do i
need the free space partition to be labeled linux ext2? what about
creating a swap parti
I am about to install linux for the first time, and am having a few
problems: what are the symbolic links for? what do they do? They are not
being downloaded to my computer when I download the packages. Do I need
them? Also, the file sizes specified for the packages are relatively
small - 3 Kb, 4 K
