I have a similar setup but between 2 debian machines - not SCO.  
This does not appear to be a problem with the TCP part.

If it used to work modem to modem and not with TCP/IP have a 
look at the line in /etc/inet.d that calls uucp.  I think it must be called 
as user "mmdf".  Can you log into scorch, as root, then su mmdf, 
and typ "rmail" and see if you get an error?

You may also need a line like 

commands        rmail,uux 

in the sys file on speedy but I don't think it is relavent to this 
problem.

One final twist.  I don't know how your filewall setup works, but we 
use uucp on dial-up machines to handle incomming mail.  For 
outgoing mail they send it directly via smtp.  If you cant make 
speedy get mail out to scorch via uucp, you may consider 
forwarding it to scorch via smtp.  (Setup scourch to allow relaying 
from speedy.  It will not affect your incomming mail or MX's etc).
