I have set up postfix on a machine to send/receive mail. Normal
install and seems fine EXCEPT that I don't think that port 110 is open
for POPing. I can send mail fine but I can't get into the machine to
download mail. I can't figure out what the problem is. I cannot
telnet into the machine on

I'm having some trouble with something that should be very simple.
I've got postfix running on a box with sarge. Just building a local
mailserver. Fetchmail is grabbing mails off of the internet and doing
fine. I can ssh into the box and read mail. But I can't get outlook
to login to the pop s

I am a recent convert to Linux, running Debian sarge/testing with KDE
3.2.2. I am interested in setting up some sort of user switching, so
that my wife can have her setup separate from mine. I've been
especially inspired by the switching available in the new Mac OSX.

Sorry that this is not strictly Debian related, but this is the only
Linux list that I really follow and ya'll are so helpful. I've been
digging through the manual and googling a bit and I am surprised that
I can't figure a way to easily hide and show the KDE kicker with a
keyboard shortcut. Can

I'm sure that I'm just suffering from newbitis and I apologize. I'm
trying to install kde on sarge. I have done apt-get kde. I have the
first 4 cds and everything installed with no problem and only a few
items required to download. When I tried startkde I got something
like:

I've been hunting around for this information (or any list of what is
in each iso) but cannot find it. I would like to install kde from
iso's and have the right ones around for some friends' installs that
are coming up. Can anyone clue me into which cd's I need? Or better

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to try to install Sarge on my XP
box as a dual-boot and begin testing. Mepis and Libranet are both
appealing, but I think I'll stay with pure Debian for now, since
that's what I'm getting comfortable with. I haven't used the desktop
environment in linux yet,

Ah, I didn't know that Knoppix was Debian-based! Knoppix was the
first Linux that I saw, as I guess it is for many. That sounds like

I'm fairly new at Linux, but I really enjoy using Debian. I'm looking
to install a desktop Linux at home in a dual-boot mode. As the Debian
desktop still has a ways to go, can ya'll recommend a distro for me?
It needs to be slick to please my wife, but I love the Debian spirit.
