Hi,
I recently got X running and I'm having a strange
situation with the screen being "split" in any
resolution higher than 800*600. I can't think of
a way to more definitively describe it in words,
so I would like to capture the whole screen to a
graphics file (.jpg, .gif, whatever) and post it
Hi,
I have a Zefiro ZA2 soundcard I would love
to use with my Debian machine.
I see the ZA2 is listed in the Linux
Hardware HOWTO as "supported", but it is also
says "NOT RECOMMENDED" It's the only entry
marked that way and there is no explanation as to
why. The manufacturer has no inf

Hi,
I had a problem earlier this week in which
I could set up a PPP connection, but it wasn't
working properly. I fixed it by re-installing
debian and changing some answers to questions
during the configuration. I think the thing that
did it was that I had previously specified my own

Jeff,
I'm very new to Linux, too, but my
understanding is that cdrecord and cdrdao are the
typical cd-burning softwares. There is a
cd-writing HOWTO that seems pretty good, too.

Hi,
Does the debian distribution include a
character-based IRC client? If so, what is it
called, and where will I find it along with
information about setting it up? If not, can
someone recommend one and a known good ftp site
where I could doenload it?
Thanks!

All,
Thanks to all who responded to my question
yesterday about my PPP setup.
I corrected the problem last night. The
problem was one of three things. Since my debian
installation is so new that I have no personal
data or customized settings, I just ran through
the initial installa

OK.
I'll do that tomorrow after collecting it this
evening.
As best I recall, it is like below. I don't
recall the ip numbers, though, so just putting
x.x.x.x:
# /etc/resolv.conf
domain rutgers.edu
nameserver x.x.x.x
nameserver x.x.x.x
Thanks,

Hi,
I've been making some progress with this
first attempt at GNU/Linux and am really learning
a lot. I have hit a bit of a problem with
getting an internet connection going, though. I
hope someone can help.
I seem to be succesfully making a PPP
connection with wvdial. (I haven't got
Hello Again,
Last night was nearly fruitless. Well, I
shouldn't say that; at least I have some specific
questions now.
My current situation is that I have installed
debian from floppy disks and can boot. I have created
a regular user and root. I'm learning the basic unix
commands, b

peace,
