To my knowledge (I am not an Exim Expert) any major unixoid
mailserver-program should use /etc/aliases at least for server internal
purposes.

Not directly but they changed their smb-protocol a bit so that
"Non Standard SMB-Clients" will fail to copy files bigger than 2GB.
