checkinstall and I do install packages using checkinstall.
Sometimes it fails, and a make install works, THEN checkinstall works...

remove fam worked, and I still have some libfam files around:

Xwindows comes up using the NVIDIA driver.
so all is right with the world, and my wife can reboot my computer if I am
away ( not that she wants to, but we live in an area with violent
thunderstorms and power goes out once in a while..)

the question is, did they mean to leave it out, or should you be root to start
with?? or should you be a normal user for the entire process..

what folders do you have under /media?
if sda1 is your USB stick, what happens when you type:
mount /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 ( assuming you have a folder sda1 under /media)
