Whenever I use dpkg to install anything, right after it says reading
database... I get an error saying that xservers-vga16 is broken. How do
I fix it?

Whenever I use dpkg, while it is checking the package databse it always
says:
Files list for package xserver-vga16 missing assuming package has no files
currently
installed
This is the file I want to install so I have a problem.

I am trying to install X and have posted about 5 messages. I am new
to Linux and Unix (I'm running WIN95) currently I have not done anything
productive with it except get frustrated. I downloaded Debian 2.1 onto a
80386 with 250 MB of disk space for / and a 30 MB swap. I want to get

Me again, no I downloaded Debian 2.0 off the internet I am running
Debian on my 386 powerhouse. The reason I did not use dselect is because
I have not quite figured it out. If someone could help me chose packages
to use it would be greatly appreciated.

originally configured the OS although everyone I have talked to says I
should have. If someone could tell me what packages to download that
would be great. I do not have any files on the system so I could easily

I want to install X and I everthing I do with dpkg and dselect will
not work, I get an error every time. I downloaded Debian so I cannot
acsess all of the packages directly. Someone please help.

I just joined this list and I was wondering if someone could help me
with X. I downloaded it to a WIN95 machine, decompressed the files that
could not fit on a disk and brought the files to my linux machine, ran
the preinst.sh script and it said a.out is not up-to-date. Please Help.
I am new
I am trying to install X with great difficulty. I downloaded X from
XFree86 and ran the setup script preinst.sh. It said that I had an A.out
system and that my a.out binaries where not available for that release.
What should I do.
