when i installed debian i got to the point where we
must set up /etc/apt/sources.list.
i selected ftp, but obviously it couldn't connect
to the ftp server because my network wasn't set up.
how does one set up and configure the network under
debian; is there a netconfig analagous to pppc

linux? what i mean is that generally you can't dial into the aol servers unless
you are using their special app, which unfortunately isn't for

what i want to do is convert my existing linux
partition into an umsdos or loopback filesystem to send to a friend. i have done
the opposite - converted umsdos to ext2, but could someone tell me how to go the
other way?

modem: go with 3com modems, they are the best
internal modems for linux since they generally aren't winmodems. almost all
external modems will work. finally for internal modem info could try www.linmodems.com
sound card: i strongly recommend sound blaster 1024
