Is it possible to dual boot into either normal windows (booting from
the harddrive) or linux which is stored on the network? Ive looked into
something called pxe a little, but that looks more like a one way thing.

What do you mean by unnecessary? If you do not want to access files in
those drives, you can unmount them with:
# umount

I still use gmail because I can access it everywhere, and if I use it
with google reader, I have no need for a something such as thunderbird
or any other email client. Those two do everything I need them to do.
