i am having problems with installing and running

Unleashed" and with it i recieved a cd which included debian on it. i have

I've been attempting to prepare my machine to play
some quake, but I can't get the 3dfx.o module to work.
I downloaded the device3dfx source using apt-get, ran
the buildpkg script, and then installed the .deb
created. As the deb is trying to update-modules, I
see a message saying "Unresolved symb
I was trying to install alien in order to convert some
rpm's to deb's, so I downloaded the latest version of
alien in deb format. I tried to dpkg --install it,
but it balked at my not having the package "perl"
installed on my system. I have perl-5.005,
perl-5.005-base, perl-5.005-doc, perl-5.005-

I am new to Linux, and have recently installed Debian.
In my attempts to get connected to my school's
ethernet, I have found that there is no /dev/eth*'s on
my system.
I have one network card, a Netgear FA310TX. I found
this card in a hardware list with the word "Tulip" in
parentheses next
