Hi, folks
I have sucessfully re-built my kernel to add support for my
Soundblaster Pro card. (An interesting side-effect is that now
my backspace key works!! Go figure..) I was having trouble
getting CD's to play until I changed the permissions on /dev/cdrom
Tom,
You need to grab the kernel-source-x.x.x package. Next, refer to
the nicely done doc.s from
http://www.ourmanpann.com/linux/kernel.html
Good luck!

Bob,
I encountered the same problem. ncurses-dev is not in slink, but
you can find it in hamm. So as not to mess up my installed
packages database, I ftp'd the .deb file manually and used dpkg
-i to install it. Works fine now.

Jay,
If you like Windoze Explorer, try Linux Explorer (explorer).
They look very much alike! :-)

Found it. It was in hamm and not in slink yet. I installed it
and now I'm compiling. Hopefully, it will end up ok. Wish me
luck! :-)

Hi, folks
I want to update my kernel (2.0.34) to 2.0.36. I've already
upgraded the rest of my system slink, so today I used apt-get to
install the new kernel-source.
When I switched to the /usr/src/linux directory, I found it was

Hi, folks
I want to begin fetching mail as soon as my system boots up,
by having fetchmail running as a daemon. What should happen is that
fetchmail will trigger diald when it wants to connect to my POP account.
Where should I install the fetchmail-up script to enable this?

Hi, folks
What I'm trying to setup is this: When I boot-up my system, I
want to get a dial-up ppp connection to my ISP and grab mail. I want
this to happen without having to manually run pon after I log in. I also
want to be able to detect if the line has gone down and re-connect in

Ok, tried this and no joy. Any other ideas? When I run
fetchmail-up from root's home dir, it seems to work (at least it dials
ok). Perhaps the problem is the order in which things are started. How
can I set things up to be sure that diald has been started before
fetchmail-up runs.
BTW,
Gery,
I had the same problem. I used apt-get to install xdm and everything
worked fine after that.

Hi, folks
I have a similar question:
Almost every client that uses sendmail to post mail to my ISP uses my

account using fetchmail, so my actual mail address is my [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Folks,
The subject pretty well says it all. Many files on the network are
compressed using pkzip for M$DOS.
What utilitites are available in Linux to un-zip such things?

Damir,
Did you make your Linux partition bootable?
I recently installed Linux on drive D: of a two-disk NT box. At
first, I used a custom boot disk when I wanted to run Linux.
Over the past weekend, though, I figured out how to add Linux to
the NT loader
