Ext4dev vs. Ext4

2008-12-30 Thread Slim Joe
Besides the name, what's the difference between ext4dev and ext4? I'm curious because I'm planning to format a 1TB disk as ext4. It appears that the e2fs tools already have support for ext4 (with and without -"dev"). The problem is the latest Debian Linux image (2.6.26.x) has support only for ext4

KVM and Athlon single-core CPUs

2008-12-20 Thread Slim Joe
Is anybody here running KVM on a single-core Athlon CPU, in particular on a newer 45W LE-series processor like the Athlon LE-1640? My understanding is that all multicore AMD CPUs (X2, X3 or X4) support KVM, but I'm not too sure with single-core CPUs, inasmuch as my current 1800MHz Sempron (which I

Desktop becomes unresponsive during large file access

This is a problem that I've learned to live with since I first installed a SATA hard disk. It afflicts two different systems, one running Ubuntu and the other Debian. When executing commands or programs on large files (> 100 MB), the system becomes unresponsive. Among such commands are: (1) sha1
