I say, feel free. I've invested a good deal of time in Debian as
a hobby. An opportunity to use those skills in the workplace is
pretty much my ideal job. As long as the jobs are debian-related
and the list doesn't get targeted for spam any more than usual,
I say recruit away. (Plus, I'm a recent c
You can do it by logging in with a full X session using XDMCP.
I've used hummingbird exceed on Windows to log in to my Linux box
and start xawtv. It's not worth it though. The network just doesn't
have enough bandwidth to send 30 frames per second at any size in
realtime. I have 100Mbit Ethernet,

A certain other major distro (which I'll leave unnamed, but it starts
with an 'R' and rhymes with 'edhat') symlinks /boot/grub/menu.lst to
/boot/grub/grub.conf. I suppose it makes the file more obvious for
newbies, but it seems more stupid the longer I look at it.

On Redhat, put:
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
in your /boot/grub/menu.lst and make sure splash.xpm.gz is in that
directory. The thing is, I have no idea how the "xpm" format works.

Here's an extension to that question: Is anyone familiar with PCI dual-port
100 Mbit Ethernet cards that work well in Linux? My router is out of PCI
slots, but I need to add another network card. Tips are appreciated!

Here's a related question: does anyone know if there is a grub graphic
available for Debian? Redhat's looks pretty cool, and Debian just has
the text menu.
The image goes in /boot/grub and is a ".xpm.gz" file.

There's a localepurge
Here's a related question: when will those .journal files go away?
I have a RH7.2 system which was installed with ext3 and a Debian
system which I upgraded to ext3. The RH7.2 has no .journal files,
but the Debian machine still has them, even after a few reboots.

Does anyone know how to get the LimeWire linux client working in
Debian? I keep getting java errors when I use unstable's jdk1.1
package, and Sun's downloadable JRE complains that the file
'libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2' is missing.
Any pointers?

Yup, I always had to burn ISO's whenever they had a new release.
The upgrade itself wasn't too painful, but I never found a way
to do it over the Internet. I saw my
