I had your same trouble periodically resurfacing with cups upgrades on
my debian!
I solved it now changing group name (to lp instead of root) on all
cups related files in usr/bin and usr/sbin
chown root.lp

Mas, so para ajudar, toda vez que eu reinicio o micro eu tenho que
trocar o dono de /dev/lp0 para lp para poder imprimir, pois, ao
reiniciar o sistema ele volta o dono para o root e ai nao se imprime nada.

Pelo que vi, em alguns casos há um problema recente com o módulo lp, que
em algumas situações o mesmo não é carregado na memória, portanto não
criando o dispositivo /dev/lp0.
Tente colocar o modulo lp no /etc/modules e teste.

Não estou conseguindo imprimir após a atualização da Sid de hoje. O /dev/lp0
sumiu apesar do módulo parport_pc estar carregado.
Alguma luz?

I installed sarge on one of my machines which went flawlessly. Thanks to
the team who have done a neat installer.
Initially lprng was installed. I removed it and installed lpr. Funny
thing is that /dev/lp0 was missing. So, I recreated it with proper
perms, etc. On reboot it is again missing

Ich habe einen Drucker (CanonBJC6200) der auch prächtig druckt. Da aber
die Patronen alle sind, hab ich mal soeben den Drucker (HP) von meinem
Mitbewohner gediebt. Der druckt nun aber wiederum nicht. Das Problem
hierbei: Cups weigert sich, den Drucker mit dem parrallel:/dev/lp0

I got my printer working now. Thanks for your help.
I hadn't set CONFIG_PRINTER as it was buried at the bottom of one on the
menu screens in xconfig!

Estamos trocando um antigo servidor de impressão que estava com linux
2.2.13 (Mandrake), conectado a uma impressora da HP laserjet (HP8100).
Nesta máquina, quando fazemos cat /dev/lp0 (necessário para o serviço de
quotas de impressão - solicitando o contador interno de páginas
dados da impressora, e voltar à linha de comando.
Dessa forma, quando executo o cat /dev/lp0, o que realmente acontece é
que o comando cat executa, lê os dados da impressora, mas fica
aguardando mais alguma coisa, ou seja, fica preso no cat. Sei que quando
a impressora envia as informações
