I have partially solved the problem. Actually, there were an incorrect
symbolic link for the kernel image and my last modifications concerning the
alsa stuff were not taken into accouns.
Now the ALSA modules load perfectlyt but it seems that the acces to the ac
codec is bugged.

These lines have been added by alsa-base ... they appear in mobprobe.conf
after an update-modules but that does not seem to solve the problem :-(
Thanks for the hint

Running update-modules doesn't change anything :-(
I have the same error message when I try to modprobe directly snd_intel8x0. In
the latter case, a bunch of modules (like snd_pcm or snd_ac97_codec) are
installed. Also, I installed the alsaconf packages and alsaconf does not see

Hello guys,
just installed the kernel 2.6.1 with ALSA support (alsa snd module , PCI
snd_intel8x0 module and all the OSS emulation stuff) as well as the packages
alsa-base and alsa-utils. But when I try to modprobe snd I get

Will disabling alsa in the kernel and building from alsa-source work?
I know I need to d

Hi... I have interest in using the linux kernel 2.6 but i'm afraid i
won't be able to use ALSA since it has a module in the kernel and the
ALSA kernel modules package is only available for kernels up to 2.4.22 ...
What should i do? Can i build the alsa-source instead of waiting for
the 2.6
