I moved my untarred themes from
~/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/themes
to
/home/adam/GNUstep/Library/AfterStep/themes
and clicked on
'Start-->Desktop-->Update StartMenu'
when they showed in the 'Desktop-->Theme' menu
but clicking on the theme directoriess just sh

that option on by default (he/she may disagree). Immediate solution is,

1.7-1.8 Afterstep has a builtin theme support.
You can use that engine, or do it by hand, just untar the tarball, and put
files into appropriate directories (manually).
If you will use the theme engine, go to GNUstep/Library/Afterstep/themes
directory, and put your tarball there. Next update all

What are the actual error messages? Also, are you running slink or
potato?
AfterStep 1.8.0 compiles just fine here on potato, provided that all of
the necessary x-dev packages are installed.

I got the x to run and I selected afterstep as my window

After adding new applications (eg. /opt/netscape/netscape), to
/etc/X11/afterstep/menudefs.hook, the menu works fine for a while, but after
some time, menudefs.hook goes back to its original configuration, wiping out

I only have 1meg video RAM and I run X at 1024x768 with 8bpp.

I've decided I need some help. I don't get it anymore. I upgraded a lot of
packages on my own computer to be able to use libc6 versions of X-programs
(most notably the gimp), and it has worked. I use afterstep as window manager
(version 1.0-5.1). This one also works just fine.

Afterstep was running in 16bpp, not 8.
If I modified the .steprc file I could make the AFstep.xpm icon appear
elsewhere on the wharf bar.
The fix was to install xproc_1.12.2_i386.deb from the /debian/updates
directory. This made xload work again and
lc29b50> which contains xbiff. If you are missing either xbiff or
lc29b50> xload, 3 icons will be missing: afterstep, mailbox, and
lc29b50> load graph

ITS NOT A BUG. You are missing xbiff. xload is a file in the package
xproc. You need to install xcontrib (i think) which contains xbiff. If you
are missing either xbiff or xload, 3 icons will be missing: afterstep,
mailbox, and load graph

I've just installed debian 1.3.1 on 2 seperate machines. On both machine
the icon on the top of the warf bar (afterstep and X windows) is missing.
The AFstep.xpm file exists and is viewable using xv, but it won't appear.
Also, xload won't run because it claims to ne libproc.

Sometimes when I modify my .steprc, afterstep will lock my screen. I
can't use ctrl-alt-del to kill it either. When I rsh in remotely, I don't
have any other processes running, besides my shell. Some weird things
