It says I have already installed and am using 2.6.12 - bonus!
On the apt side of thing it seems I didn't have anything enabled. I
have two DVD's that I downloaded for Sarge.
However when I add them I get lots of error messages.
Is contrib is all I need? Are their other sources like updates
install linux-image-2.6.12-1-686

Well I get to this bit and I am stuck because according to apt-get it
could not find this package. in fact it can't seem to find any
package!

I believe after you modprobe, to switch back to the installer try (Alt-F1).
This should switch you back to the original console.

Yesterday I tried to install Debian Sarge with an offical cd image,
but I wasn't able to use the 2.6 kernel since it couldn't detect
my dvd drive. The model is from Plextor. Was released in december
last year I think?
Anyway, I decided to use the 2.4.27 kernel instead. Since I need
a 2.6
