set to 100% so I am good to go.
Thank you Marco for your help.

Does pavucontrol see your soundcard?
Check the volume levels.
Maybe there are multiple sound cards (e.g. graphics card with HDMI or

I've only just gotten this system onto the network (after 4 months (that

It has just been replaced (warranties are good for something), but now I
have a possibly not hardware problem.

Whoops! More on that ethernet problem. Apparently, when I ran

Interestingly, I still have ethernet.

Not really a Debian problem I confess. I have a strange problem with
ethernet between my notebook PC (which has an NE2000-clone PCMCIA ethernet

Transfers when both ends are running Linux seem just fine.

I have an extrange problem which I'll explain shortly.

It was the HD. We decided to install a newer pentium with Debian 2.1.
The installation went very well. I managed to read the routing tables of the
old router usin

Hello
I'm using an SMC card (EtherPower I think) with the DEC chip, and
it seems to be running fine under bo. Did you configure the kernel
to use tulip driver?

Occasionally a BIOS can not assign an I/O to a PCI slot because of cards
around it. Moving it to another slot can alleviate this. Also, AGP
cards can disable nearby PCI slots.
