Something simple but, did you edit /etc/fstab?
your old one would have mounted /dev/sda5 as /. You will need to change
it now that /dev/sda5 doesn't exist.

I just moved around my partitions so I could get rid of Windows. My
Linux used to be on /dev/sda5 and Windows on /dev/sda1, but I created
a new partition where Windows had been and copied all my files there
with Knoppix and
