when i do dpkg -l | grep perl i get this:

sounds like a package that was not compiled/compadible with your
processor? what kind of cpu do u have and what kernel are you using?

Kernel 2.2.1 (it's very old, I know), and the processor is a k6 if i'm
not mistaken, but it's definitely a i386!
