When doing a make install in /usr/src/linux for kernel 2.4.2 I receive:

I downloaded the ac2 patch for the kernel 2.4.20 and applied the same.
The patch went smoothly without any errors, etc. To compile the kernel,
I did
fakeroot make-kpkg kernel_image
After the checking of depends, the process fails with the following
error:
touch stamp-kernel-configure
t
I am trying to compile the newly released kernel 2.4.0 on my laptop.
(I also have ReiserFS support patched in). When I try compiling it
using make-kpkg, I consistently get it dying the same place, with the
messages:
init/main.c:588: conflicting types for `inode_init'
