Sorry to be sending this via Outlook but all of a sudden I can't use wvdial
in Debian. It's been working successfully for me for about 4 months. Then
this morning I typed in: wvdial, and got this response:
Cannot open /dev/modem : permission denied.

I took a look at permissions and they are now world writeable for
/dev/modem. I'm not sure

I'm still not quite sure what the problem was but decided to follow your advice
and set up pppconfig to use wvdial modem strings and then use pon and poff. That
worked I'm happy to say!
