Hi, Sorry to be sending this via Outlook but all of a sudden I can't use wvdial in Debian. It's been working successfully for me for about 4 months. Then this morning I typed in: wvdial, and got this response: Cannot open /dev/modem : permission denied. Does anyone have any idea what might

Thanks for that info David, I'm still not quite sure what the problem was but decided to follow your advice and set up pppconfig to use wvdial modem strings and then use pon and poff. That worked I'm happy to say! Ken P.S. Yes I was looking at a link to /dev/modem. Quoting Ken Januski
