you don't run gpm, you're fine. You can't even use gpm as a repeater. I

ALSA CS4232 driver worked fine with X 3.3.6,

I ran Debian stable and xfree86 3.3.6 successfully for
several weeks, but wished for KDE so am trying to
upgrade to Debain testing.
