Back to the trough again. We have just recompiled the kernel to 2.4.20, and we boot just fine. But the first message in the kern.log file says: "Cannot find map file." and then "No module symbols loaded."
The file "map" is in /boot, and the time of its creation seems to correspond with when we run make modules-install. Any ideas? Again, many thanks in advance for your help.
