If there isn't a 'logo.sys' in the root of your C: drive, then it's using
the default. Just put logo.sys in the root.

ARG! I can't find the file to replace for Win98! Anyone know where it is or

I think I got it right this time :-). I converted the image to the
right size / color depth and went ahead with naming it logo.sys. It
is a link at http://www.cyberhighway.net/~gsinglet/. You can
shift+click on it in Netscape Linux and it will download; I have to

The REAL question for the Debian list, is this:
How do I get a "logo" at startup in Debian/GNU Linux, before all of the
init functions take off, using Lilo as bootloader? THAT would be the
cat's meow, IMO. -- Or the penguin's waddle, if you wish.

Hi David, agreed - I've become so used to HTML mail readers that I
forget everyone isn't using one. I was in too much of a hurry it
seems to get it on the internet and my geocities space was the only
space accessible from behind my firewall here at work. I will put it
on my Debian logo site @ htt

Yep, or just shift+click on the link. I just did it real quick but it
would be cool to modify as a shut-down screen with a phrase something
like 'It is now safe to boot into your _real_ OS'. Or something.
This may be getting off topic and since the list is already extremely
busy...

Guys,
Apparantly your browser isn't configured to automatically handle
.bmp (bitmap) files. If you are using Netscape, you can right-click
on the link, then select "Save Link As..." and save the .bmp file
somewhere on your disk, and look at it with an image-viewer
program. Other browsers should
O.k., I downloaded the nifty bitmap and put it in c:\ as "logo.sys", but
what happened is that now there is *no* logo at bootup. Can anyone (on
this Linux list!) help me figure this out? (a Win95 question!). I'm
booting with Win95.

I tried to get your Image, but Netscape only loads a bunch of random
characters. I would be very interested in something like this as I often
annoy my bosses about why they try to use Windows to run a network.

I clicked on this link and just got a bunch of gibberish. Maybe I did
something wrong?

Really it isn't that big a deal.
There is a .bmp file named something like windowslogo.bmp in the
windows directory that has the windows bootup display. It can be
edited with the paint program. I modified the one on my kid's
computer so It comes up with their names, "Emily and Reva's computer".
You could copy the file to linux,

Hi Tim,
I have Window$98 and Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 running on a IBM ThinkPad
385XD laptop without any trouble (sofar?). I've kept a detailed log
of all the things I did and can mail it if your interested. You'll

Basically, I reparti
I've managed to get Debian running with Win95 on my home machine. Here's
how I did it.
First, I used the Debian installer to partition the drive. This, of
course, means that everything on the drive is wiped out. It sounds like,
since you have two drives, you can handle doing this. Using the pa
