Cannot get sound up and running on etch.
I know there are a million+ posts on the new regarding sound on linux. I
have tried to do my homework by searching the debian list archives,
googling, and I have also read the following HOWTO's:
linux sound HOWTO
AWE 32/64 HOWTO

Hallo!
I have a weird problem with Debian 2.2:
Since I updated my system from Debian 2.1 to Debian 2.2, sound doesn't
work anymore.
- Debian 2.1: Sound is fully functional with kernel 2.0.x and kernel
2.2.x (I tested one of my backups to make sure).
- Update to Debian 2.2: Sound through /dev/dsp
l work
for plain sound support.

I've started configuring my potato system to use a SoundBlaster AWE64, and
it appears the documentation I've found isn't totally up-to-date. I've read

Hi Nils-Erik,
the Tip using ALSA was great, now it works more or less. But two

1. I can't use programms like gmix anymore, even the volume-control in
xmms doesn't work. Before you told me about ALSA, I got it to work
with the normal kern
To get the AWE64 to ru wit Linux, check
/usr/doc/linux/Documentation/sound/AWE64 if you have the kernel sources
installed. I've used these directions and had no problem getting sound to
work.

on SBAWE32 you need to use isapnp to init the wavetable portion of the
card, it is probably the same on awe64.
see man isapnp for more info

Hi,
I think that won't solve my problem as my AWE64 is not an pci device
;-( As far as I understood the help for the es1370 driver, it is for
pci soundcards.

do a cat endoftheworld to /dev/dsp. Obviously I've not
configured something right for my soundcard since the test
failed. I've included the files below. Any help is most
welcome.
