Yes but it depends on the windows manager. I'm running gnome2 with
metacity right now and I can do that easily with Alt-Tab. I think that
might also work with wmaker and icewm, but I'm not sure at all.

not an X problem, this is done by your window manager. If you just want
to switch between fullscreen apps then matchbox or ratpoison would be
good for

of workspaces or virtual desktops. My current setup uses openbox,
but I've previously used sawfish and fvwm2. I
