I've just started to use Linux. So I try to install Debian 4.0 into PowerBook
G4 with the minimal base system.
After installation, I've tried to reboot the PC but it was unable to load into
GUI environment(startx). The error was like this:

OK, lets assume you don't scare of any shell scripting and text console
tools first, otherwise it will be very hard to yourself and to help
Ok...So I've tried to run
apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-nv xserver-xorg-input-synaptics \
xserver-xorg-input-kbd xserver-xorg-input-evdev xserver-xorg-input-mouse xorg
and it appear like this...
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree...Done
xserver-xorg-video-nv is already

Such kind of output (with obviously more information about your system,
gathered and proceeded by reportbug tool) is a possible bug, you just
can report to relevant package. Then experienced developers will help you
if they will find ways.

I recently installed SARGE from cd, on a PC without internet connection.
I only had the first installer disk available initially, so installed
the base system and that went fine. I later went back with the first 4
CDs of sarge (downloaded using JIGDO) to complete the install just using

I have X working now, apparently I missed installing xfonts-base and
xfonts?75dpi.

I think somehow you do not have the X server
Probably you need
ln -s /usr/bin/X11/XFree86 /etc/X11/X
Hopefully the package installation scripts will soon be able to create
the necessary symlink.
