On a sid system:
When I use xdm, gdm or kdm the keyboard does not work in the
X11-environment. I can't even log in. I can use startx without a
problem and everthing is working OK.
Any idea what is causing this?

I would try dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 (or is it
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-common?) and
