I am getting a strange error from apt-get update on a new potato install to a dell inspiron 3500 laptop.
apt-get update & apt-get upgrade work fine with potato (stable) sources, but when i attempt to use woody sources.list, I am able to retrieve package lists (us) from the mirrors (I have tried several which work fine on other systems) This box fails with: Reading Package Lists Error! E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room E: Error occured while processing xmms (NewVersion1) E: Problem with MergeList /var/state/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_debian_dists_woody_main_binary-i386_Packages E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. No matter what mirror I use, the failure is identical (same place ... xmms) ... when I grep the state file, I find xmms, but no 'NewVersion1' At the same time, I can use the same sources.list on a working woody box, and get no errors at all ... any ideas about how to fix this or work around it? I am trying to do a potato->woody upgrade by the mechanism described on the #debian channel of IRC. aloha (& TIA), dave
