The replies to this question have been so helpful! Also, the discussion on
quiet computer cases. This is of concern to me because some of the new
computers I've seen are SO noisy that I hesitate to order one through the
mail. I feel like I need to hear it first! My old Gateway was extremely

For that I would advice the Shuttle cases. I 've read plenty of good

I've researched building my own machine though have not initiated that project as of
yet. I'd highly recommend "PC Hardware in a Nutshell" by Robert Thompson and Barbara
Thompson and published by O'Reilly as an excellent guide to building a machine of
one's own. Their website www.hardwareguys.

I would strongly suggest you build it yourself ! It is very enjoyable and you
can customize it to your own needs. It is not that hard, as byu reading your
motherboard manual you should be able to do it by yourself :-)
And one of the best advantage is
If you surf over to the Micronux web site (I bought the 7 CD Woody

Hello Peter,
Sorry your Gateway died. I have the same machine, about same age and still
running! Currently as internet gateway on my little network at home. Never
had any problems with it. (knock wood.)
About your question. I have thought of building my own machine too, but never
got around to
My five-year-old Gateway Pentium 200 MHz died recently. (It won't boot from
the hard drive or a rescue disk, and it won't go into bios-setup mode.) I
don't think it's fixable, and anyway, it was so slow that it's probably time
to replace it. Temporarily I'm using a borrowed computer with Win95.
