Hello,
my syslog shows many comlaints from modprobe, "Can't locate module
char-major-6" -- every 32 seconds, as it seems.
Some googling told me that char-major-6 is somehow related to the PC
parallel port. Now, I have nothing whatsoever connected to my parallel
port.
How can I

Hi,
When I boot into my system, I get this information, and the syslog
record this every minute. I try to search this with google but only find
answers written in languages other than English, so I don't understand.
Could anyone help me to figure out what is wrong and fix it? Thanks.

It isn't.

Sort of. The parallel port support code (whether built into the
kernel or loaded as an external module) registers itself as bei
nition known only once the module is loaded?
No, it's hard-coded and static.

If you have the linux kernel source, check the Documentation/devices.txt
ommand update-modules.
Thank you, Tuukka. But what I meant to ask was the location of the file that
lists all the char-major-N entries. I don't remember what char-major-6 is.

The current aliases are in file /etc/modules.conf
The configuration is done to file /etc/modutils/aliases and changes
updated using command update-modules.

In the kernel source tree, have a look at Documentation/devices.txt

Where can I find out which device fits to a given number?
