So here it appears that root is sda6!
It is. tune2fs -l /dev/sda6 should work fine.
What other way is there other than df to find where the root fs is mounted?
Not sure, but if you just remember you are using sata drives, and they
show as sd[x][#]. Maybe fstab will help?
