Why would diacritic characters (like ä) show up perfectly well on screen but not in printed output. Not even after the document first being exported from oowriter to a pdf that looks as it should.j väärt

What fonts do you use? When opening in acrobat/kpdf/evince what fonts are
included

Do you have installed package ttf-bitstream-vera or did you install
Bitstream Vera fonts yourself? If you DO have it installed, then go and
file a bug against that
