how to remove portma and rpc statd?

Hello When I do top, two programs show up which I want to remove. These programs are: portmap and rpc_statd. I don't run NIS or NFS, so I think it would be in my best interest to remove these Items. How do I do so? I think I have my kernel configured so they aren't being used. John
