I'm trying to install Debian 3.0 but the kernel locks up during
installation.
The machine is an AMD Athlon MP 2000, with an Asus A7M266-D motherboard
and chipset AMD 760MPX.

I have an old Toshiba 110CS laptop[1] that I'm trying to get Woody on to.
After a few false starts I managed to get it booted and into the first
stage of installation. It didn't like the first driver disk, but six
floppies later I managed to find a disk it liked, and then it failed

Can I avoid the CD creation route for installing the debian linux? I would just as
soon get the linux kernal, ramdisk file system and a robust file system and create my
linux guests using those files thereby forgoing the CD create intermediate step that
appears to be required. I do not require

computer. The installation goes smoothly but after it reboots
something goes wrong. After running fsck I get the message
"Setting the System Clock using the Hardware Clock as reference..."
