No tienes que cambiarlo, no tienes que poner otro. La cadena de
inicialización no debes cambiarla salvo que tu módem tenga algún problema
concreto con la predeterminada.

Hola amigos tengo un modem externo que es un TP-Link que es un
TM-EC5658v y no tengo ni idea de como echarlo a andar aca en mi linux,
me dijeron que son mejores que los internos y los usb ah otra cosa es
puerto serie, me habían dicho que era montar y que el mismo lo reconocía
pero no tengo ni idea

Plain USB has to be cdc-acm (full serial device) to work in Linux.
Finding them is not that easy in some parts of the world, and most are
not produced anymore. The smartcard ones are even worse. YMMV.
