Add yourself (and any other users you want to have access

Add yourself (and any other users you want to have access) to the
audio group. Note that anyone in the audio group has rw access to
these devices. This goes for other device access as well.
You can either edit /etc/groups

Hi,
I try to run qw-client-svga as 'root' but I've no sound. I use ALSA on my linux
box: wave output works.
qw-client-svga is the QuakeWorld program from the latest quakeforge project.
I got the following error messages (using the strace program)
---
open(/dev/dsp, O_RDWR
I cannot play sounds because:
sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': No such device
The link is broken and it is /dev/dsp0 that is actually missing.
How do I bring it back? I have no idea what caused it to disappear.
tnx

I was wrong, /dev/dsp0 is present and linked to /dev/dsp, but I still get
that error message when I try to play sounds.

I don't know what caused the problem, but it magically fixed itself.
I cannot take credit for it.

Hello Everybody!.
When I run GNOME (gnome-session) I get a message (well a stream of messages
actually) on the console saying /dev/dsp file not found!.
Do I have to create /dev/dsp?, and if so how?
I it a link to something else?, if so what?
Or is this done by a seperate package, i.e. oss

/dev/dsp. This seems pretty reasonable, since even
I can't find a /dev/dsp (or /dev/audio for that matter).
So, how do I get these devices installed? Is there any way of doing it
without compiling the kernel (I tried that late last night, but the
computer hung while booting, I think it's a ecgs 2.95
at last able to play a cd
on my computer. However, when I run mpg123 it complains about not
being able to open /dev/dsp. This seems pretty reasonable, since even
I can't find a /dev/dsp (or /dev/audio for that matter).
