printing 2.0 beta

I just installed 2.0 Beta from CD ROM. I cannot print via the local parallel port. Printer works in that other OS - so hardware is OK. I must have gone astray somewhere in the install. Symptoms: lpr filename - produces no printer activity, but does queue file. cat filename
