Wasn't sure where to raise this.
I used to run a sarge system with root on LVM volume on raid1. ( I
don't think raid is relevant here but mention it for completeness).
When I upgraded to etch the upgrade seemed to go OK but the system
wouldn't reboot. It appeared that the LV

Can anyone point me to a step by step document on how to
compile a custom kernel in Debian Sarge with root on LVM? I would
really appreciate some help.
AIUI, the only way to get root on LVM to work is with an initrd. Have

Hello everybody,

I have a Debian system running with root on LVM on RAID. Kernel
updates, however, require either a manual update of an initrd file, or a

Hello,
I've written a doc on how to install a Debian with root file system over
LVM and RAID.
If it's of any interest it can be found at this URL:
http://www.midhgard.it/docs/index_en.html
Any suggestion/criticism/correction is welcome.

Although I don't have the experience, I'd advise against using a soft-RAID root
partition because if you don't have the right kernel for recovery you could
be in pretty big trouble.
You're better off using a separate drive as a root partition for LVM or
soft-RAID.

Hi,
Has anyone out there attempted building a Debian woody system with root fs
on LVM on software RAID?
And while we're at it, has anyone done this with the root fs being one of
the exotic new ones (reiserfs/XFS/JFS/ext3)?
