Simply delete or rename your current xorg.conf file,
then run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" again. That
worked for me.

No, dexconf - whatever it is - had no effect. There is no man page,
dpkg and apt-cache search know nothing about it but it is in /usr/bin so
