The Debian principle of backporting important fixes instead of upgrading

a package, but I'd like to point out it might take some time until it
really ends up in Debian. At very least it won't be in Debian Stable
until Jessie (Wheezy's successor) is released, which is, well, $long_ahead.

Eshat Cakar made a package for screenkey already. As far as I know it
was in a good shape and only lacked a sponsor until he gave up
eventually. Maybe get in touch with him (CC:-ed) to save duplicate work.

I suggest you to support Open vSwitch as a drop-in replacement for
bridges though. It's /way/ more flexible than bridges.

at-poke is a useful tool to check accessibility support for gnome/gtk+
