I intend to orphan the gnubg package. The package is in good shape, but I rarely use it and am not the best person to continue to maintain it. The package description is: GNU Backgammon is a strong backgammon program (world-class with a bearoff database installed) usable either as an engine by other programs or as a standalone backgammon game. In addition to supporting simple play, it also has extensive analysis features, a tutor mode, adjustable difficulty, and support for exporting annotated games. It can be played either from a GTK+ graphical interface, optionally with a 3D board, or from a simple text console. Packaging is on Salsa and uses git-buildpackage with an explicit patch queue. The package is in generally good shape. Upstream is active, although resource-constrained and could use help with porting the package to newer GTK+ ecosystem packages. Experience with the GTK+ ecosystem is a huge plus in maintaining this package and is one of the reasons why I'm not the best maintainer for it. There is one Debian-specific patch to move the location of some optional databases to /var. This approach should be rethought in conjunction with upstream so that Debian no longer has to carry a patch. All recent uploads have been done with dgit. Obviously, whether to continue using that tool is up to whoever adopts it.
