"PProcM is a Curses App which monitors the system's CPU/Disk/Network/Memory usage. Very small and lightweight." I wrote PProcM about a year ago and have shared it with my friends who generally find it useful. Its been available in gentoo portage for a while and I havn't recieved many complaints and I believe it is pretty stable. PProcM is cross between top and GKRellM.
